Move to a newer local app

  1. Choose Save encrypted backup in the old copy. Keep its password separately.
  2. Receive the newer app from a trusted native sender. Choose a different Home Screen name so you can distinguish the two copies, then finish its verified installation and unlock it.
  3. In the new copy, choose Restore encrypted backup. It keeps its own verified app files and unlock.
  4. Disconnect the sender and restart the new copy. Check your editions, studies, attachments, contacts, and message history before removing the old icon.

Message history is preserved. The new copy uses a fresh messaging identity; verify contacts again and ask for new group invitations. Queued deliveries and device-bound export keys stay with the old copy. Keep the old copy until you have verified the new one.
