Install Lamplighter on Android

Download the APK, allow its installation, and open Lamplighter on your phone or tablet.

Before you start: The Android APK from the Lamplighter download page. A direct download does not require a store invitation or a Lamplighter account.

Get Lamplighter

Step by step

  1. Download or receive the APK on your Android device.

Open the Lamplighter download page in your browser and choose Android. When the download finishes, open it from Downloads or your Files app. For an offline first installation sent by Bluetooth, open the received APK from the receiving notification or Files instead.

  2. Allow this source if Android asks.

If installation is blocked, tap Settings on that prompt and allow installations from the browser or file manager that opened the APK. Return to the APK and tap Install. Manufacturer settings may use different wording.

  3. Open Lamplighter.

When installation finishes, tap Open or find Lamplighter in your app list. A website download includes a library to start reading. For a small app sent by another phone, scan the sender’s Show opening code inside Lamplighter, then receive your library in the next step. No purchase or license activation is required.

  4. Receive the library after a phone-to-phone installation.

On the sender, choose Pass it on → Send selected library. On the new phone, choose Connect and receive. Connect over Bluetooth or the same Wi-Fi or hotspot, compare contact identities, and verify the contact. The sender chooses Share library → Send selected offers. Accept each resource and wait for verified and saved. Open reader becomes available when your first Bible is ready. Wi-Fi is best for a whole library.

  5. Restore the installation setting.

In Android Settings, open Apps, Special app access, then Install unknown apps. Select the source you allowed and turn off Allow from this source. Keep Play Protect enabled.

  6. Remove the received APK after installation.

Delete the APK from Downloads or Files after installing it. This applies to website downloads and an offline first install received by Bluetooth. That received APK is outside Lamplighter’s whole-file encryption. Removing it does not uninstall Lamplighter or remove the library saved inside it.

  7. Check offline reading and keep your data on updates.

Make a sample note, close the app, turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data, and reopen it. For a protected installation, use the protected update controls in Pass it on, or receive an update from a verified Android sender. Replacing a protected copy with the ordinary public APK puts its bundled resources back in the installed package. For an ordinary installation, install the newer matching APK over the existing app. If Android rejects the update, keep the installed copy and contact support; uninstalling or clearing app storage can remove your study work.

  8. Get a protected update from the website.

Unlock your protected copy and use Show app to allow this internet connection. Open Pass it on → Protected internet update. Choose Check for update, then Download protected update when a newer version is offered. Keep that screen open until verification finishes. Choose Install received copy and approve Android’s installation prompt. Reopen with your existing unlock and complete Finish your update if shown. Check your library before hiding the app again; the update keeps it in protected storage.

  9. Receive a protected update by Bluetooth.

Before opening the received APK, unlock your existing copy and open Pass it on → Receive a Bluetooth update → Scan update code. Scan the sender’s Show opening code inside your app. Then open the received APK, approve Android’s update, and use your existing unlock. Keep your app data; do not uninstall first. Remove the APK from Downloads after installing.

  10. Receive an installer securely over Wi-Fi.

With Lamplighter already installed on both Android devices, open Pass it on → Receive securely over Wi-Fi on the receiving device, then choose Scan transfer code. Scan the sender’s code inside Lamplighter, not with the phone camera or browser. The sender checks the request and approves Send once. Keep both apps open; its code expires after 15 minutes. The sender can choose Refresh Wi-Fi code if needed. When receiving finishes, choose Install received copy and approve Android’s prompt.

What encryption covers

After you set up protection, the libraries and personal study data held in Lamplighter’s protected vault are encrypted. Full installer blobs retained inside Lamplighter are also encrypted. Installation and approved onward sharing temporarily provide an installable APK; retained copies remain protected, and Android still asks you to approve installation. Secure Wi-Fi installer transfer uses HTTPS verified with the sender’s QR code scanned inside Lamplighter. The small phone-to-phone installer carries the reader, and selected resources follow through an encrypted connection into the receiver’s protected library. Identical resources are reused. The public website APK and files left in Downloads are outside this whole-file protection. Encryption and a game appearance cannot guarantee safety or privacy.
