Install Lamplighter on Linux

Choose AppImage, DEB, RPM, or Flatpak and follow the steps for your distribution.

Before you start: One Linux package from the download page that matches your computer. The examples below use placeholder filenames: replace them with the exact filename you downloaded, and run commands from that folder.

Get Lamplighter

Step by step

  1. AppImage: make it executable and open it.

Keep the AppImage in a folder such as Applications in your home directory. Right-click it, open Properties, and allow it to execute as a program. Double-click to run it. The AppImage file is the app, so keep it. If FUSE is missing, use your distribution’s FUSE package or try another offered package.

  2. DEB: use Ubuntu or Debian’s installer.

Open the DEB with your software installer, or use APT in a terminal. Review the dependencies and approve installation. Open Lamplighter from your application menu.

    sudo apt install ./YOUR-DOWNLOADED-FILE.deb
  3. RPM: use your distribution’s package manager.

Open the RPM with your software installer. On Fedora, the command below installs the local package and resolves dependencies. On openSUSE, use sudo zypper install with the same local filename instead.

    sudo dnf install ./YOUR-DOWNLOADED-FILE.rpm
  4. Flatpak: install the bundle.

Install Flatpak using your distribution’s instructions first. Open the .flatpak file with your software installer, or use the command below. Review any required runtime download. Open Lamplighter from the application menu after installation.

    flatpak install --user ./YOUR-DOWNLOADED-FILE.flatpak
  5. Try a reading session offline.

Open a bundled edition and save a sample note. Close the app, disconnect from the internet, and reopen it. Tell us your distribution, package format, and any message if it fails to open or save.

What encryption covers

After you set up protection, Lamplighter encrypts the libraries and personal study data held in its protected storage on this device. Ordinary native app storage is not automatically covered. Public installers may contain readable bundled Bibles; protection setup does not encrypt the installer you downloaded.

Encryption and a game appearance cannot guarantee safety or privacy. Exports, backups, browser history, and operating-system records can have different protections. Read Lamplighter’s privacy policy.

These downloads are part of the first public testing wave. Try the field checklist and send feedback with your device, app version, steps, and result.
