Translation and resource preparation
Prepare a Bible translation for Lamplighter
Use the public formats, templates, and conversion tools to prepare a readable Bible edition.
Before you start: Text you are permitted to use, its license and attribution, and the public lamplighter-formats tools. Version 0.2.0 includes the conversion guide linked below.
Step by step
-
Choose a starting point.
Start with the edition template or create a new-language skeleton. If you already have a translation, the conversion guide covers referenced or unnumbered verse lines, Word documents, USFM, USX, OSIS, and installed SWORD Bible modules. Review the supported subset for your source format before converting.
-
Keep the text and numbering faithful.
The edition is a JSON file containing books, chapters, verses, and text. Preserve verse numbers, Unicode text, and any intentional gaps. Keep the edition’s license and required attribution. Set the text direction for a language written right to left.
-
Convert, validate, and review.
Follow the conversion guide for your input format, inspect its conversion report, then run the formats lint command on the resulting edition. Review representative chapters against the source. A successful format check does not verify translation accuracy or permission to distribute the text.
-
Import a copy into the protected library.
Keep a separate master copy of your source. In a protected reader, open the library and choose Import version or Import commentary. Other supported reference-resource JSON uses Settings → Library → Import reference JSON. Select a working copy. If the game appears while the file picker is open, unlock again to finish. The encrypted copy is verified before the app attempts to remove the selected original.
-
Check the result and any remaining source file.
Read the import status. Native import removes the exact selected original only when it can verify and remove it safely. A browser cannot delete that source: after checking the imported resource, remove the extra file in your file manager. Check names, verse order, language display, and attribution before sharing. Deletion is not forensic erasure.
