iPhone and browser app

Back up and upgrade a local browser app

Keep the old copy while you install a newer one and move your saved work through an encrypted backup.

Before you start: An unlocked saved browser app, storage for an encrypted backup, and a trusted Android sender with the newer version for an offline installation. These complete-backup instructions apply to 1.11.95 or later. The full backup-and-restore journey on an actual iPhone has not yet been verified for this release.

Step by step

  1. Save a backup from the old copy.

Open App settings & backups and choose Save encrypted backup. Set the backup password and save the file where you can find it. Keep that password separately: anyone with the backup and password can restore its contents.

  2. Receive the newer app.

Follow the offline iPhone installation guide with a trusted Android sender. Give the new Home Screen icon a different name so you can distinguish the copies. Finish saving the new app and confirm Available offline. Keep the old icon and its data.

  3. Restore inside the new copy.

Unlock the new app, open App settings & backups, and choose Restore encrypted backup. Select the backup and enter its password. Restoration replaces saved study and contact history, merges library resources by filename, and keeps the new app’s verified program files, unlock, and appearance.

  4. Check your work offline.

Disconnect the sender, close and reopen the new Home Screen app, and unlock it. Check chapters, studies, notes, attachments, contact names, and conversation history. Keep the old copy and backup until you are satisfied.

  5. Verify contacts again before messaging.

A restored copy creates a new messaging identity. Verify each contact again. Old groups are readable archives; create a new group or accept a new invitation to resume group messages. The backup does not duplicate the old app’s active messaging keys or queued deliveries.
