Android and browser app

Export and import a protected file

Share a study, Bible version, or commentary as an encrypted file or a readable JSON copy.

Before you start: Lamplighter 1.11.95 or later and an unlocked protected reader. These instructions describe the updated Android and browser apps; older desktop downloads may show different controls. The new export workflow passed software checks, but its complete file-picker and transfer journey on a physical Android phone has not yet been verified for this release.

Step by step

  1. Choose one saved item.

For a study, open Studies and choose its Export action. For a Bible version, open its library entry and choose Export. For commentary, select it in the Commentary panel and choose Export commentary. The same File protection choices apply to all three.

  2. Choose how the file is protected.

Encrypted file is selected initially. Choose Export encrypted file to save an .lpx file. Unencrypted file saves readable JSON outside protected storage, even while Lamplighter is hidden. Choose that only when you intend to keep or share a readable copy.

  3. Save the file and keep its key available.

Approve the file destination. Android can show the game while its system picker is open; return and unlock again when prompted. The installation that created an encrypted export keeps its opening key inside protected storage. Clearing or reinstalling the app can lose that key.

  4. Give another device access only when intended.

In the original item’s Export screen, choose Previous encrypted exports and Show decryption QR for that file. The matching QR opens only that export. Anyone who has both the file and QR can read it, so avoid public QR sharing, screenshots, or messages in places where discovery could put someone at risk.

  5. Import and check the result.

Choose Import in Studies for a study, or Import version / Import commentary in the library for those resources. Select the file. The creating installation can open its own encrypted export; another installation asks you to scan or paste its matching decryption QR. Wait for verification and check the imported item before removing any source copy.
